It also explains the newest changes to the model negotiating text (US Model BIT 2004) and additional treaties.About the Author: After graduating from Harvard Law School, Professor Ken Vandevelde practiced law for three years with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Kampelman and then joined the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State. At the State Department, his responsibilities included the negotiation of bilateral investment treaties and the arbitration of investment claims before the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal. In 1989, he joined the faculty of Whittier Law School in Los Angeles and then two years later joined the faculty at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. In 1992, he published his book, United States Investment Treaties: Policy and Practice. Since then, Professor Vandevelde has published numerous articles on international investment law, has spoken on this topic in some 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America, and has served as an expert witness in international investment arbitrations and as aconsultant on international investment law to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the United Nations, various governments and counsel for private investors. From 1994 to 2005, he served as Dean of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
