A forty something Englishman simultaneously runs out of steam and inherits an unexpected fortune from his parents, moves to France to set up a farm and then find a 'son' to work it. In the setting up tangle a manger is employed whose wife causes nothing but trouble. She brings her gruesome relatives to live with the manager and her on the farm. Patrick Dengate is looking for a 'son' and in his place finds himself with five demobbed French Foreign Legionnaires, and the manager's ex-girlfriend, but somehow disentangling the manager and his wife, and especially her relatives proves a task beyond his ability. If it wasn't a French farce, it would have been a Greek tragedy!
