Dearth, Public Policy and Social Disturbance in England, 1550 1800

After the mid-18th century dearth no longer produced marked rises in deaths in many English communities. What it did produce, however, was rioting. This study surveys the literature on dearth while concentrating on government policy towards grain provisioning in periods of dearth.
