Dr. Edman obtained his training at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, receiving the M.S.Pharm. degree in 1977 and the Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry in 1981. He became an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry in 1986 and Professor in Pharmaceutics/Drug Formulation in 1988., While working as an academician Dr. Edman has had positions as Section Leader in the Pharmaceutical Division of the Swedish Medical Products Agency (1983 to 1985) and Director of Pharmaceutical Research and Development at Pharmacia AB in Uppsala (1985 to 1991). His current research interests are in new drug delivery systems, especially those intended for nasal and ocular use. Parenteral administration of microspheres as a targeting system for drugs is another topic where he has published several research articles., Dr. Edman has authored a number of scientific publications, reviews, and book chapters and directed several M.S. and Ph.D. students. He is a member of the Board of the Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Section of the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is also a member of the Controlled Release Society and the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV).
