Born Shirleena Racine Baggett, she uses Amber Ocean to express herself. She says, "When you write, you are free. No rules, no boundaries, no one to tell you no. I've never been one to enjoy obeying rules, or watching my mouth. I guess that's why I love writing so much." The word Amber describes her natural beauty and integrity of her work. The emotion in the word Ocean, is what she feels she brings to the reader when she writes. She has been in numerous poetry contest, participant in El Camino Colleges Speech team and featured in literary journals. After some time away from writing, she realized that she could not be away from her gift any longer, she needed her words to breathe. Her goals include becoming a published author, which she has now reached with her new book, "28". In it she talks about her life, her past, and where she is headed. She says, " This book was necessary for me to write, because it allowed me to let go and be free from the things that held me back, and run towards the things that I loved. This project was the end of the old me, and the beginning of me becoming who I am created to be".
