Fortenberry and her husband live near Atlanta in the City of Chattahoochee Hills. She has always had a vivid imagination and a story to tell. As a young person she kept a journal beside her bed and recorded her thoughts and dreams as they came to her. The Murry Rose began evolving in her mind nineteen years ago when she was pregnant with her son. Earlier on in her life, in the second grade, she was diagnosed with dyslexia, which she struggled with most of her life; difficulty in reading and making out letters and proper placement became a great challenge into adulthood. She remained determined to not let her uniqueness deter her; she graduated from high school and attended a Junior College studying Sign Language. Her confidence began to build as she served as an interpreter for the Deaf in local churches helping others express themselves. She found a calling that served a great purpose and she was reminded of her purpose, the creation and production of "her fantasy" writing a book to defy all of the odds. The strong support system; friends, family, coworkers and especially her husband and son, encouraged her to dream bigger, so she decided to finish what was started years ago as a thought, writing The Murry Rose.
