In this dramatic story, two Austrian children, Elsbeth and Emil Hoffer, and their Czechoslovakian friend, Jaroslav Gindrich, face starvation, imprisonment and even death during the desperate days following the Second World War. With nothing but the clothes they have on, the three bravely flee the communists who are taking over Czechoslovakia and make their way across No Man's Land to West Germany.
