I have not undertaken to note all of these features, nor, indeed, any considerable number of them, for the field is illimitable. Nor have I proposed to classify these elements as a basis for generalization. Some such work as this may be undertaken later. I have tried only to make a record of observations here and there which may perhaps contribute something to a pre view oi the tendency of things in this great field of intellectual activity.
