JONATHON BENTLEY, a respected, New England psychiatrist, leads a comfortable and predictable existence. Drawing on his expertise in artificial intelligence, he spends his spare time devising a 3-D virtual therapist that potentially will revolutionize the practice of psychotherapy. Then, one day, he receives a suicide note from a patient who had tried to seduce him in his office. When he accompanies the police to check up on his patient, he is shocked to find the key to her condo in his coat pocket and her hanging from a rafter.
