He lives on the south coast of England. Since December 1992 he has been retired from teaching languages in secondary schools. Bill has been writing poetry for several years. "Freedom Reclaimed" is a collection of poems in which he makes observations about his own experience of life in general, particularly with regard to relationships, when they are subject to stress and even breakdown and when they are restored in healing and reconciliation. Bill is a speaker and campaigner for racial reconciliation. His ancestors were slave-owners for 180 years in the West Indies, South Carolina and elsewhere in the Deep South. His website - www.grimke.co.uk - is used as a rolling memoir about his work in the UK and abroad, bringing members of the Drayton, Grimke and allied families - both descendants of the enslavers and the enslaved - together and reconciling the past to the present.
