"Why did the Nazis commit genocide against the Jews? Is it possible to finally find a way of explaining the mystery of the Holocaust? For Jan Horník, the key to finding such an explanation is to focus on Hitler's worldview. For this reason, the book consists of Hitler's original writings, accompanied by detailed comments. Looking for a firm basis on which to build a workable explanation, the author painstakingly investigates why Nazism was racist and so fanatically anti-Semitic. In the last chapter, he reveals Hitler's motive for genocide. In doing so, the author tears down the myth about the Holocaust being rationally inexplicable. He shows that Hitler's anti-Semitism cannot be explained by the course of previous historical events, since Hitler's fanatical hatred was rooted in fairly modern ideologies. At the same time, the reader will find out that Hitler's overall worldview not only has its exact logic, but also corresponds with the scientific worldview of modern man. Apparently, our civilization has not yet rejected all theoretical sources of the totalitarian Nazi regime.About the Author: Jan Horník was born in 1975 in Prague. He studied political science at the Charles University of Prague (1995-1999), but after eight semesters he decided to do philosophy on his own and quit the university. The theory of evolution is his main focus of interest. He is a research fellow with the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in Prague. Since 2003 he has been an editor of the Distance philosophical revue and recently he has been working as a lector of noetics at the Academia Bohemica, a private philosophical institute in Prague. He has invented the Sixmaster computer board game.
