It should be noted that this guide is also for the treatment of minor injuries, and that these general instructions are consistent with current standard first aid practices. Some portions of this guide are focused towards outdoor enthusiasts, which Dr. Stachiw is a participant, and may not reflect "normal" first aid situations.About the Author: Dr. Stachiw is a long time scouting enthusiast (both as a boy and an adult), who was Troop committee chairman for 5 years and heavily involved in the training of scouts in first aid, orienteering and cooking. As part of the preparation for taking the troop to Philmont, New Mexico, Dr. Stachiw received Red Cross First Aid and CPR training along with yearly refresher CPR training by the local fire department. One of Dr. Stachiw's tasks in training the young men in the troop was taking classroom based first aid training and placing it in an outdoor setting which is often more hectic and less organized.
