The inspiration for writing these books came when I babysat for my grandchildren. And because I had nothing to read to them. I wanted to portray a 'heroic' character for a child to look up to. The world is a better place because these dogs, and the lives they save. In Book One of Bella's Journey, Bella, is a puppy left alone in a dark forgotten alley. Small and fuzzy, a Golden Retriever, born from award winning blood line parents. Her owners called Bella a 'runt'. They assumed her size meant she was not suitable for breeding future generations of show dogs. Left in a cardboard box, abandoned and left to die. In Book Two, she is found by Harry Belgrave an injured police officer. She is loved and grow's up to be the family dog. She trains to guard and protect, but she is a dog loved and shows love back. I tell my story, from my point of view, and as you know by now, I am a dog.About the Author: Roberta Vlier, pen name R. J. Vlier, was born to a family of six children. She thought being the oldest daughter was great - until life happened. Growing up carried responsibilities. As the oldest female, she watched her siblings and loved - to tell her story's. When the family took long car rides they listened to a professional storyteller - their Dad. The large traveling family either sang together or listened to her Father's stories. Later, she practiced this passion by telling her stories to her younger sisters. She rubbed their back's and read to them until they fell asleep. Roberta started to write before Technology moved into every household. As a hobbyist writers, she filled stacks of composition notebooks. Putting them in a boxes in the closet. But now she could type the stories out, storing them with her dreams as a published Author. With no agent, publicist or webmaster, nothing happened. Yet she kept writing. After a few years of failing health and a brush with skin cancer. Roberta decided it was time to get her books in print. She ventured into social media and found old friends from her home town and high school. She started talking to one who had a business helping writers get their books into print. She, now had an editor, mentor, publicist and webmaster. Finally her edited and formatted stories were in paperback - it was #astounding! When her first proof from her Self-Publishing site arrived, she felt like a real Author. She recalls her greatest achievement was when her mother asked for one of her books to read. Then said she liked it. She remembers the first sale of one of her titles on Kindle to someone other than her family and friends. She delighted at receiving her first 'fan'. When she speaks to groups she says, "Everyone has a story to tell." She advised in her down-to-Earth style, "Heck write a page. Then fill another, before you know it you have page after page of your own story. You have something to say so don't let it get stuck 'inside' you."
