After the crucifixion the disciples hid away frightened to death of what the authorities might do to them. When Christ appeared to them after the resurrection they were much encouraged but they were still in no position to serve God. It was therefore necessary for them to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Lord told them not to leave Jerusalem for it was there that they would receive power when "the Holy Spirit is come upon you". Then on the day of Pentecost they were filled with the Holy Spirit and transformed from frightened men, into men willing to minister to others in His name, inspired and emboldened by the Holy Spirit. Just as Peter was unable to preach as he did on the day of Pentecost without the Hoy Spirit, so Christians today are unable to preach and teach in power or live according to the demanding rules of Christ unless they are similarly filled and empowered. This book explains in simple terms the sovereignty of God, the spiritual nature of life with God, and man's need of God along with the danger of attack by the evil one, the importance of sacrifice, what hell is and how spiritual power from on high can be received. It is essential reading for those wanting to more fully understand the deeper things of God and be a better servant and disciple of Christ.About the Author: After an electrical engineering apprenticeship in the Royal Navy, Peter went on to serve on a number of ships in different parts of the world, finally being responsible for the weapons maintenance department of a frigate and lecturing to trainee officers on weapon systems. He also spent two years at the Royal Navy's training college in Fareham, Hampshire instructing on underwater weapon and defence systems. Leaving the service in 1969, he worked as a quality engineer for the British Aircraft Corporation on spacecraft and guided weapon systems before moving to R. A Lister (Diesels) where he became a technical author in 1984. He then worked as a contract author, mostly in the nuclear industry, writing instructional and training documentation before retiring in 2011. He gained membership of the Society of Authors in 1993. For over 20 years, Peter was a Methodist Local Preacher. He also served as an official prison visitor from 1st January 1990 until end January 2016, but continues to attend services with his wife to support those prisoners he used to visit. It was at the prison he met a Jew named Derek who had become a Christian in prison. On his release into the local community, Peter was able to help him adjust to a new life of going straight. It was Derek who first asked Peter to write on scripture. After which Derek's brother Aaron, a rabbi serving in the USA, came under the influence of his writing and became a Christian. Aaron asked him to write first on the book of Revelation and then on the subject of Moses' Tent of the Meeting, which he self-published early 2011. He currently has 15 books on Amazon for downloading to an eBook reader and as paperbacks. Peter has been married for 55 years (2016) with three sons and six grandchildren. His autobiographical book explaining how he came to write so many books is called "A Tale of Three Men".
