Each title studies one major environmental topic, and the subject is divided into five issues. The problem of global warming is explored with information about the causes, as well as the results, of the changes in temperature around the globe. Maps, photographs, charts, "Fast Facts," and case studies appear throughout the book, and websites are listed for further study. Suggestions for students to help protect the environment are offered although they often do not appear to be actions which students could undertake to make a difference. Students are urged to keep records of temperatures, rainfall, and the signs of the seasons which would be wise in the long term but are not usually meaningful in the short term and may add to the misconception some students have that most threatening changes are rapidly taking place rather than evolving over the years.
