Liz has a husband and two sons. She also has Obsessive Compulsive Spartanism, an obsessive-compulsive disorder that makes her get rid of just about anything. The play plunges deeply into the relationship between Liz and her family and the devastating consequence of her psychological condition. Full-length play. Actors: 1f 3m. Review: Royal Court Theatre, London, 6th June, 2018 BENCH. "We enjoyed reading your play - we thought it was an imaginative, engaging play and that you'd found a formally interesting way of exploring a family's disintegration. The use of fragments that constantly shift non-linearly from past to present worked really well: we felt that you'd found a rich topic and interesting way to explore it through this compelling formal idea." About the play: Greenwood Hopewell wrote BENCH during her time at the University of York, where she studied the MA in theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance. Her initial inspiration for writing BENCH, came from the idea of an obsession to de-clutter. She was interested in creating a character that would have the compulsion to get rid of things and as a result would create havoc within the family. The author plays around with different forms of consciousness, using five different types of scene referred to as fragments.
