On March 13, 2020, cruise companies around the world stopped their operations in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In the following days passengers were disembarked and thousands of crew members remained on board in what would initially be a 1-month pause. Several months passed by and crew members remained on board waiting for the opportunity to be repatriated.
