Arrowsmith Press announces the first English-language edition of Duo Yu's poetry, Knock Knock in Fiona Sze-Lorrain's translation, a selection of poems by one of the foremost Chinese poets of the post-seventies generation. Born in rural Shandong in 1973, poet Duo Yu co-founded the prominent "Lower Body" Movement based in Beijing during the early 2000s. Often an expression of defiance, his writing explores metaphysics under a political slant. Among his multiple books of poetry and prose are Meanings Annoy Us (2004), Chasing Butterflies (2009), The Last Darkness (2013), Writing Small Poems Makes One Anxious (2015), and Act on Emotions (2016). Broadly considered in China as a foremost poet of his post-seventies generation, Duo Yu has worked in different literary genres. For twelve years, he earned his living as an independent writer, working outside institutional hierarchies. One of the signatories of the "Charter 08" led by Liu Xiaobo, he has been living under surveillance. He divides his time between Tianjin and Beijing, where he works as an editor.Fiona Sze-Lorrain writes and translates in English, French, and Chinese. The author of four books of poetry, most recently Rain in Plural (Princeton, 2020), she has translated more than a dozen books of contemporary Chinese, French, and American poetry. As a zheng harpist, Sze-Lorrain has performed worldwide. A 2019-20 Abigail R.
