She defended her PhD at the Sorbonne on Double figures in the movies of Joseph L. Mankiewicz. She focuses mainly on classic American cinema and is particularly interested in the adaptation of literary works. She published articles in reviews such as Positif, Etudes anglaises and Ligeia. Gerard HUGUES is Professor of American Studies at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. A specialist of the Young Republic, he has published extensively on 18th century political thought. His latest publications include John C. Calhoun: theoricien de l'etat totalitaire (University Press of Provence), 2002 and Jefferson and the West, the Lewis and Clark Expedition(Armand Colin), 2004.
