The city of San Jose is home to the San Jose Sharks of the NHL and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. The San Jose Earthquakes returned to Major League Soccer in 2008 after a two-season absence. The new incarnation of the Earthquakes, which inherited the original Earthquakes' history despite having no direct relation to that team, currently play in Santa Clara. The city of Oakland is home to the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, MLB's Oakland Athletics, and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. The 2010 World Series title by the Giants was the first championship won by a San Francisco Bay Area pro team of the four major sports since the 1994 NFL Season, when the San Francisco 49ers won Super Bowl XXIX. On September 20th, 2011, the ECHL Board of Governors announced that a AA hockey team would appear in San Francisco for the 2012-2013 season. They would be called the San Francisco Bulls and would play at the Cow Palace.
