It resulted in two sequels, Dragons 2 in 2014 and Dragons 3: The Hidden World in 2019, as well as several other derivative works.The screenplay is inspired by a children's novel by Cressida Cowell published in 2003 and translated into French in 2005 under the title Comment trainer votre dragon1, although the story is very different from the original.
