It's not everyday that an individual with no knowledge of police work, except what they see on television, gets to aid in an investigation. However, this is exactly what happened to Dorothy "Dot" Jones.She went to work for Seán Tuachair, a retired Homicide Lieutenant, who had opened a bookkeeping/tax office, as his office assistant. When her world was turned upside she had to figure what she would do: "I couldn't believe what I was hearing and then I realized they both were staring at me. To be honest, I didn't know how to respond, but considering my option of either living a dull life or being involved in a real life police investigation, I chose the latter. "'I'll do whatever you want." But I did think: What am I getting myself into, what in the world am I thinking?"She, of course, had the hardest job, trying keep Seán focused as he conducted his part of the investigation into a note threatening the major of Westmont Station. It was easy for him to get sidetracked if something else seemed more important to him than what he was working on, especially since he didn't want to be involved in the first place. And this happened when the first murder occurred.He changed his focus ever so slightly, thinking maybe the same individual did the murder and note. Yet it was Dot who kept bringing up the girl that had been murdered, who she was, where she was going, and where she was coming from, when they gave her a lift the night before her body was found.When a second murder happened, it was then he realized they were in a race. The killer was one step ahead of them and they had play catch up before another murder had taken place. With every step a new twist or curve was thrown in their way.Time was running out and who would win this race?
