Retired Philadelphia cop Ed Callahan savors his quiet life on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, but fears he may be wasting his remaining years. Making cutting boards and selling them at a farmers market, pursued as a harmless diversion to fill idle hours, leads him into a search for a lost Chincoteague pony, confrontation with vicious drug gangs, finding and losing a new love, and mentoring his teenage nephew as he investigates two murders and tries to keep local law enforcement from making a tragic mistake.
