Set in the late 10th Century in a land known as the "Polan" a man evolves to help create a new country surrounded by enemies. A people linked together by a common language and ancestry of a nomadic life in search of land in which to settle and plant roots. Andre is the leader of his family clan and attends a meeting with the Duke that will change his life and the lives of all of his family forever as he embraces the new religion of the Church of Rome. This conversion to a new religion that only allows for one wife is a problem for Andre to with five wives of his own. His cleverness in dealing with this issue in a "civilized" manner impresses the Duke and he takes an interest in Andre and his family. This is the beginning story of a family that originates from mere land owners who will grow into a noble house for this new country known as Poland.
